Mount Lofty Legal is the legal practice of Andrew Hawking Esq - Barrister and Solicitor (Aust) / Attorney and Counselor at Law (NY). Andrew also works with other specialists in project management, procurement and category management, enterprise architecture and climate change and renewable energy, to provide focused services where projects may require a diverse set of specialised skills.
Andrew was admitted to practice in Australia in 1996, and in New York in 1998. After completing Law at the University of Adelaide Andrew lived in New York for two years, where he completed post graduate studies in Dispute Resolution, sat and completed the New York Bar Exam, and spent time observing private commercial and court based ADR practices and services.
Andrew returned to Australia in 1997, and after working as a solicitor in commercial litigation in Adelaide and Melbourne, read for the Victorian Bar working mostly in commercial litigation and then later negotiations around native title and mining matters in Queensland, Western Australia, Victoria and South Australia.
Since 2005 Andrew has worked on medium to long term projects as independent legal advisor and locum in-house counsel for:
Engineering companies providing commercial/industrial electrical products and services nationally; Consulting engineering firms across a wide range of subject areas in Victoria and South Australia; Engineering companies in the defence space nationally; A major university licencing, commercialising and protecting intellectual property; State Government Departments on projects around land use, including native title, mining, climate change abatement, renewable energy and cooperative use of protected areas in Victoria, Queensland and South Australia;Statutory authorities on water recycling projects for domestic and commercial use in Victoria; Native Title Representative Bodies on applications for recognition of native title and cooperative land use projects in Queensland, Western Australia, Victoria and South Australia; An Internet / Telecommunications company from start-up to listing on the ASX; State Government Departments on contract and procurement assurance projects, including around large scale ICT procurements (new RAH & ePlanning), developing contract management plans for large, complex, long-term contracts for services and projects, and procurement assurance and compliance around the state government's response to the Covid 19 pandemic; and Numerous litigation projects around: commercial law, environment and planning, insurance, criminal law and administrative law.
Andrew has served in Australian Defence Force - Army Reserves, in both Infantry and Legal Corps. Andrew is keen to support veterans, particularly those who may be struggling, and is able to provide assistance and representation on both processing matters administratively and administrative law litigation.
Andrew has a passionate interest in urban design and the use of cheap infrastructure to create spaces in the urban environment that are safe and also feel safe. He has completed a Masters in Sustainable Design, and is currently pursuing studies a candidate for a PhD in Law at the University of Adelaide.
Andrew was a home dad for 5 years, and is a qualified ski-technician and bicycle mechanic.
